Brand New Website!

We are very excited to announce the launch of our brand new web site this morning. Apart from looking better and being easier to navigate it contains, for the first time, video downloads. We are starting with two specially shot lessons with one of our favourite artists, Brian Ryder covering the popular subject of sketchbook drawing techniques which Brian says is at the heart of a good painting. You can view trailers for them on the web site. Each lesson is 20 minutes log and can be downloaded to a PC or Mac computer to keep. Each one is just £3.99 - that's $6.36 US. Many more to follow. Hope you like it: www.townhousefilms.co.uk

New Project For Adebanji Alade

Adebanji - who features in our DVD Coastal Adventures in Acrylic -  is currently working on a series of portraits of London's homeless. It was a picture of a homeless man that was the second painting to sell at last year's ROI Annual Exhibition.

Adebanji used to work among  London's homeless where he used art to try and give them  a new focus on life. An inspiring thing to do from a really nice guy who also happens to be an exciting young painter.

Here's his latest powerful portrait.

Latest Paintings By Chris Daynes

Kent based artist Chris Daynes, with whom we filmed our Simplifying Oil Landscapes DVD has kindly sent me these pictures of some of his recent work. Chris is a keen plein air painter - out in all weathers. His lovely picture of the frozen canal in Amsterdam was painted on the spot while he was there on a sub zero painting expedition. That's dedication for you! Lovely work Chris!

Aine Divine the marvellous Edinburgh-based artist has a new web site. Do check it out for some lovely examples of her exciting work. When I first met her to film our Watercolour Portraits DVD I didn't know how to pronouce her first name. She put me right: "It's Aine - pronounced On-Yer as in on yer bike."

A Great Welsh Painter

My all-time painting hero is the late Sir Kyffin Williams RA who painted his native Wales and its people with such  love and empathy that he is now rightly seen as the greatest painter to emerge from Wales in the last 100 years.  BBC viewers in Wales were able last year to see a wonderful programme - part of a short series - in which Rolf Harris explored Kyffin the man and the artist and attempted  a portrait using only Kyffin's trademark palette knife.  Rolf was a frined of Kyffin and admired him greatly .  Now viewers outside Wales can see a nine minute extract from the programme which I heartily commend to you.

New Portrait Production Update - Pictures

I am still recovering from filming the  amazing Andrew James paint four amazing portraits in just two days for our next DVD. Andrew is Vice President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and the word to describe his work is - stunning. Three of the portrait sketches he completed in three hours each  but his piece de resistance was an amazing one hour  11 x 8 inch sketch of my wife Elaine pictured in the red top at the end of this sequence of portraits.

Portrait painting is my first love and apart from the filming I learned so much from Andy.

The DVD - Expressive Oil Portraits -  will be out at the beginning of August and runs two hours.
