Brian Ryder's New Book

Norfolk based artist Brian Ryder has just brought  out a new book to follow on from his latest DVD  Atmospheric Oil Landcsapes.

It's available on this link:Brian Ryder's New Book

The picture on the cover is one of four he paints on the DVD.

It's available here: Atmospheric Oil Landscapes DVD

Brian Ryder  had an interesting insight into how people value his work while he was out filming recently for his latest DVD   The theme of the film was for Brian to explore the Norfolk landscape that inspired  the late Edward Seago and put his own interpretation on the flat open scenes with huge skies. Brian was filming in the middle of Halvergate marshes about half way between Norwich and Great Yarmouth when he was approached by the owner of the land he was painting on – a weather-beaten, mud-encrusted son of the soil driving an elderly mud-caked Land Rover. After examining the picture for a few moments the farmer told Brian the picture was “not half bad” and enquired as to its price. Brian told him. The farmer looked as if he had just lost his milk quota. “What?” he stammered. “That’s more than four cows! Is it for sale?” Brian was tempted to make a sale but had to politely decline as he says he couldn’t get the cows into the boot of his hatchback.]

Brian is now considering pricing all his work this way. He recently had a an 80+ piece one man exhibition at the Picture Craft Gallery in Holt, Norfolk when small works went for a sheep and two chickens and larger pieces  for several Gloucester Old Spots.
Brian is a popular teacher and demonstrator and the  author of a number of books on painting technique.
