Robert has just received a copy of his new book by 'The Crowood Press' and should be available on or before 6th February. This book deals with the many aspects of oil painting and a large proportion of the 'plein air' paintings were undertaken with a limited palette of colours, see our DVD with Robert, 'Oil Sketching On Location'. The following is taken from the back cover and gives a resume of the books content.
'Oils are an extremely versatile and immediate medium, enabling the artist to express themselves in a variety of creative ways. They are relatively easy to use, suitable for both the beginner, or more experienced painter.
This book is a comprehensive study of how oils can be used to capture light, colour and texture in a wide range of subject matter. It includes well over two hundred illustrations, including eleven 'Step by Step' demonstrations and discusses the entire painting process from materials, inspiration, subject selection through to the finished painting. Throughout, emphasis is given to the importance of good drawing, composition, tone, colour and the need for constant assessment, all of which are vital to the success of any piece of work.'
If you are interested in pre-ordering or purchasing the book, please visit Robert's website: www.robertbrindley.com.
Congratulation to Brian Ryder who has just been elected to full membership of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in time for the launch of his latest DVD Winter Landscapes In Oil - released today.
Many congratulations to Brian from Town House Films for this great honour.
Next year gets off to an exciting start with a number of new releases already in the pipeline. In January we will be releasing Brian Ryder's New DVD Winter Landscapes in Oil.
Early next year will also see our second film with the amazing Jean Haines SWA. Her last DVD for us, Amazing Ways With Watercolour, has been a best seller and her army of fans around the world have clamoured for a second release which will be out in early spring.
We are thrilled to be working with a new artist Chris Forsey RI who will be showing how to produce incredible watercolours which go beyond the boundaries of traditional watercolour painting. Chris is a very exciting artist and a member of the Royal Institute Of Painters In Watercolour. Look out for this title in April.
Spring will also see the release of our third DVD with ROI President Peter Wileman. In response to many request from our customers around the world, it will concentrate on Peter's abstract oil landscapes which are a luscious feast of colour and tone.
Plus lots more exciting projects in the pipeline. In the meantime Elaine and I would like to wish all of our customers around the world a very happy and peaceful Christmas and a very painterly New Year!
We have just finished filming with Brian Ryder for our first release of 2012 - Winter Landscapes in Oils. Brian is a devoted plein air painter and is keen to encourage all painters to tackle winter landscapes with their sparkling light and special atmosphere.
Brian painted in some lovely locations just a few miles from his home in Wells Next The Sea in Norfolk. The weather only defeated him once - a picture we see him finishing off in the studio. The cold weather meant that Brian completed each picture in no more than and hour and a half and its fascinating to see just what can be achieved in a short space of time with heightened observation.
Judge for yourselves.
Brian's new DVD will be released in early January 2012
Several of the artists we have filmed with are members of the prestigious Royal Institute of Oil Painters which holds its annual exhibition at London's Mall Galleries from DEC 7 to 18th. Check out the ROI blog for full details and a sneak preview of some of the pictures:
